Warning! Long day = long post. :)
The day started bright and early as after a night of Kent throwing up he decided to leave for work at 5:30 (he figured he could throw up at the office just as well as he could at home and at least at the office he could get some work done in-between. Logical, no? :))
Savannah woke up at 6:30 and trailing behind her in an excited semi-conscious state was Samantha. Samantha was so excited for today! Last night as she was going to bed she said, "Tonight I will go to sleep me and in the morning I will wake up a pirate!" :) There is always magic with children in the house. :)

This picture of Kent was taken near the end of the night after pushing himself beyond what he should have so if he doesn't look all that happy...understand how sick he was and forgive him. :) I just love the earring! (Totally freaked out Dad H. when he saw it though. With that and the haircut all Dad could say about Kent’s costume was "Wow...wow...") Kent looked so good, I may ask him to be a pirate every year! ;)
I took Samantha to school this morning because the school had the annual Costume Parade at 9:30. Also, as part of the craft for her classroom party I needed to get individual pictures of her classmates.
Didn't have the setting right on my camera so Sammi's hand is blurry...oh well...
I spent the rest of the morning leisurely getting ready for Samantha's class party at 2:15. I had to punch out some stars and pick up the pictures from the one hour photo but other than that just relaxed and loved the feeling of being organized and not rushed. (I had wonderful parent helpers this year that really eased the stress level for the party because of their willingness to step in and take part.)
Kent had a doctor's appointment and afterwards didn't quite feel up to going back to work so came home to rest (it isn't anything too serious, but he got some antibiotics to help). I feel bad he is sick, but it was nice to leave Kent III with him while I went to the party. My husband sure is nice to me, even when he is deathly ill!
Samantha's class party went smoothly. We had three tables: one with a craft, one with a game and one with a snack. At the craft table (my table) the kids put their picture on a cardstock 'frame' and decorated around it with paper bats, spiders, witches, cats, moons, etc. It was an idea I had seen another Mom do at a party years ago and always thought it was a great way for the kids to have a little memorabilia of their day. At the game table the kids played Halloween Bingo and seemed to have a lot of fun. At the snack table the kids decorated cookies and had some 7up.
After we rotated each group of kids through each table we got them all together to play the Halloween version of Fruit Basket. It is always so much fun to see the pandemonium that ensues for that game!
After school our family went to the mall to trick or treat with Kent's brother Luke, Ian and Kent's nephew Sean (Ian's son). Ian's wife Sarah works at the mall so she met up with us once we got there. (We went to Mom and Dad's Hinkson's house first to show off our costumes but they had had to step out for a few unexpected errands.)

After we walked around the mall for about 30 minutes we needed to leave so we could get Luke home in time for his ward's trunk or treat. In the parking lot of the church we were finally able to catch up to Mom and Dad Hinkson to show off our costumes. (Sadly when we were going to the mall parking lot we discovered Kent III's diaper had leaked so we had to take off his pants.)

Then we dashed home to get ready for our ward's trunk or treat. We were going to take the truck because the van's back door is broken and the car's trunk was full of stuff, but alas the truck's battery was dead and we didn't have time to jump it. (We were also worried it wouldn't start again at the church when we needed to leave.) So we ended up taking the van and just not decorating it. It was kind of a bummer as we always like to do that but the kids didn't seem to mind and still stopped at our bumper to ask for candy. :)
After learning at the mall that people just hand you candy, Kent III was an old pro at trick or treating!
The trunk or treat lasted about an hour and then we left to go visit Mom and Dad Brailsford. (We got another pair of brown pants for Kent III during the trunk or treat and put his costume pants in the wash/dryer so they were ready to go when we left for my parents house). On our way we stopped to get our giant sized candy bar from a businessman who does it every year and who was also very generously giving out $2 bills to kids under the age of 6. He also always gives candy bars to Mom and Dad! Woot!

Kent said pirates don't sit...they lounge...we will pretend to believe that while really knowing he is sitting like that because he is so sick.
A long day but one filled with lots of fun and candy.
