Last night we decided that if it snowed (like the forecast said it was supposed to) we would not take Kent III to the city Easter Egg Hunt today. We woke up this morning and it hadn't snowed. So we, like many crazy citizens of our fine city, braved the cold and the crowds for our child to get some candy and possibly a plastic egg that contained a slip of paper with a prize number on it. :)
When we got to the field and were waiting around, Kent III kept trying to run out and gather up the eggs. He told us he had to go out there or else the other kids were going to get his eggs. :) Luckily we had a few minutes to explain to him that everyone got a chance to pick up the eggs and that was ok. :)
Here is Kent III upset because of the cold and because we wouldn't let him run out onto the field before everyone else. :)
Kent doing his best to warm up Kent III before the big hunt.

Once the race finally began and after Kent III had picked up as many eggs as he could find, he started in on gathering candy. It was pretty funny because he would bypass huge piles of salt water taffy to get the other kind of candy that was on the ground. (I don't know what to call the candy...it is the fruit gummy kind covered in sugar crystals. Anyway...)
Gathering candy.

Putting it in his bucket.

Giving me the 'thumbs up' that he put it in his bucket. :)

After the hunt was over, he was a little happier than when we first showed up. :) He ended up with 8 plastic eggs which was more than double what I thought he would get.
Dumping out the 'loot' to check the plastic eggs for prize papers.

As we were cracking open the eggs Kent III started getting more and more upset until he was almost hysterical.

When I was able to get him calmed down enough to understand what he was saying he told me he was upset because there were no dinosaurs in those dinosaur eggs. :/ :) Hahaha! Have I mentioned my son is a tad obsessed with dinosaurs? :)
Kent III ended up having two prize papers and Kent was kind enough to brave the cold and prize lines while Kent III and I went to sit in the warm van. :) Kent III got some plastic farm animals (too bad they weren't plastic dinosaurs ;)) and a bucket with 'air' toys and some candy in it. :)

While the hunt might not have really been worth all the aggravation and cold, it will certainly be memorable!
We don't have the girls this year for Easter, so like other years that has happened we will wait to do our other Easter traditions (dying eggs, family hunt for eggs, Easter baskets) until a Saturday we have them. So, stay tuned for more Easter activity posts, even if they don't technically happen during Easter weekend. :)
