Today we worked on our garden, specifically the strawberry patch. The last few years our strawberry patch has been an 'all you can eat buffet' for the birds. This year I decided things needed to change. The strawberries are one of the few really fun items in the garden for the girls and I wanted them to be able to enjoy them more. I doubt we will get enough strawberries at one time during the season to do much with them like make a pie or jam but it has always been fun for the girls to go outside and pick a few strawberries to eat as a treat. I want them to have more moments like that throughout the summer.
So, in order to combat the bird problem, Kent came up with a plan of encasing the strawberry patch in a giant cage.
Here the framework is going up.

Kent III tried to be a good helper.
And Savannah learned how to use some of the power tools. :)

I think it turned out pretty cool. :) Each side is detachable for weeding and harvesting purposes yet it stays together tight enough to (hopefully) keep the birds out. :)
